Product Overview

Inconel 625 is the nickel-chromium-molybdenum-niobium alloy that has become the default answer whenever an engineer needs strength, weldability and corrosion resistance in the same material without a post-weld heat treatment. Its roughly 61 % nickel, 21.5 % chromium, 9 % molybdenum and 3.6 % niobium chemistry gives solid-solution strengthening with about 60 % more yield strength than a conventional austenitic stainless, plus pitting and crevice resistance in sea water and acid gas that stainless simply cannot match. At a PREN of around 51 it sits comfortably above super-austenitic grades, and because the carbon is held low and stabilised with niobium it resists sensitisation through the weld heat-affected zone.

Hangbo Alloy supplies Inconel 625 across every product form from a single mill source, which is what buyers actually want: one heat traceability chain, one certificate package and one delivery schedule for a project that spans bar, tube and plate. Our engineers can review a corrosion or temperature duty and tell you where a cheaper alloy will do the job honestly — most of the specification work we handle starts with that conversation. A fuller property discussion sits in our Inconel 625 properties and applications guide.

Grades and Specifications

We supply Inconel 625 to the full specification set rather than picking one convenient standard. ASTM B446 / ASME SB446 covers hot-finished and cold-finished rod and bar. ASTM B444 / ASME SB444 covers seamless pipe and tube, in Grade 1 annealed and Grade 2 solution-annealed conditions. ASTM B443 covers plate, sheet and strip; ASTM B564 covers forgings; ASTM B366 covers wrought fittings and flanges. Aerospace and defence orders are supplied to the AMS series: AMS 5666 for bars, forgings and rings, AMS 5599 for sheet, strip and plate, AMS 5581 for seamless tubing and AMS 5837 for bare welding wire.

Two conditions matter on the order line. Grade 1 (annealed at approximately 871 °C) is the standard choice for general corrosion service and gives the best combination of strength and fabricability. Grade 2 (solution annealed at approximately 1,100 °C) is specified where creep strength above 600 °C governs, or where the component will be welded heavily and the client wants the lowest possible residual stress. Both meet the NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 requirements for sour service, and Inconel 625 is one of the very few high-strength nickel alloys usable at full hardness in sour environments without special processing.

Product Forms and Size Ranges

Round bar. Hot rolled and turned, or cold drawn and centreless ground, from 6 mm to 400 mm diameter, in 3 m to 6 m random or fixed lengths, with h9, h11 or ground-to-size tolerances. Hexagon bar is stocked from 10 mm across flats.

Seamless tube and pipe. Cold pilgered or cold drawn from extruded hollows to ASTM B444, from 6 mm OD with 1 mm wall up to 273 mm OD with 25 mm wall. Boiler, heat exchanger and hydraulic tubing is supplied bright annealed or pickled, with eddy current, ultrasonic and hydrostatic testing. Much of this output feeds the exchanger and condenser market; see our dedicated seamless tubes page for the full manufacturing detail.

Plate and sheet. Hot rolled plate from 4 mm to 80 mm thick in widths to 2,000 mm, and cold rolled sheet from 0.5 mm to 4 mm, both to ASTM B443, supplied solution annealed, descaled and, where specified, pickled and passivated.

Strip and foil. Precision slit strip from 0.05 mm to 3 mm with tight thickness tolerance and controlled edge camber for gasket, bellows and spring manufacture.

Forgings, flanges and fittings. Rings, discs, blocks and shaped forgings to ASTM B564, plus weld-neck, slip-on and blind flanges to ASME B16.5 in classes 150 through 2500, and elbows, tees, reducers and caps to ASTM B366 / MSS SP-43.

Welding consumables. ERNiCrMo-3 bare wire for GTAW, GMAW and SAW and ENiCrMo-3 covered electrodes, matched to the parent metal and stocked with the filler certificate. Selecting between 625 and Incoloy 825 for a specific chemical stream is one of the questions we field most often; our Inconel 625 versus Incoloy 825 comparison walks through it.

Quality and Documentation

Every shipment carries an EN 10204 3.1 mill test certificate, with 3.2 certification available where the client or the code requires independent verification. The certificate states heat number, full chemical analysis including niobium and tantalum, tensile and hardness results, grain size, heat treatment temperature and hold time, and the results of any supplementary testing — intergranular corrosion to ASTM G28 Method A, pitting or crevice testing to ASTM G48, or ultrasonic examination to ASTM E213 for bar and ASTM E213 or E426 for tube.

Third-party inspection through BV, SGS, TUV, DNV or Lloyd's Register can be arranged on any order, either as document review or as witness at our works. Our quality system is certified to ISO 9001:2015 and GJB 9001C, and we hold GOST R certification for deliveries into the Russian market. Stock lines ship in 5 to 10 days; made-to-order sizes in 3 to 5 weeks; and we maintain standing inventory in the most common bar, tube and plate sizes precisely because shutdown and outage work never waits for a mill schedule.

What is the difference between Inconel 625 Grade 1 and Grade 2?

Grade 1 is annealed at roughly 871 °C and is the standard condition for general corrosion service, giving the highest room-temperature strength and the best fabricability. Grade 2 is solution annealed at roughly 1,100 °C and is specified where creep strength above 600 °C governs, or where heavy welding makes low residual stress a priority. Both conditions meet NACE MR0175 for sour service.

Is Inconel 625 magnetic?

No. Inconel 625 is fully austenitic and remains non-magnetic in the annealed condition, including after welding, which is why it is used for downhole instrumentation housings, subsea connector bodies and any application where magnetic signature or eddy current interference matters. Cold working can produce a very slight response in heavily drawn wire, but standard product forms are non-magnetic.

Can you supply a matched certificate package across bar, tube and plate for one project?

Yes, and it is one of the main reasons clients consolidate an order with us. We can reserve a single heat or a controlled set of heats across multiple product forms so the certificate package, the traceability and the delivery schedule line up, and we will hold the material against your release schedule rather than shipping everything at once.
