Cold drawn, hot finished and centreless ground hexagon bar in Inconel, Monel, Hastelloy, Incoloy and commercially pure nickel — held in stock and cut to length.
Hexagonal bar is the starting stock wherever a component needs wrench flats, a positive anti-rotation feature, or simply a hexagon that can be machined faster and with less material loss than a round. In nickel alloys the applications cluster around fasteners, valve stems and bonnet bolts, pump shafts, instrument fittings, union nuts, actuator hardware and downhole tool components.
Hangbo supplies nickel alloy hex bars from 6 mm to 100 mm across flats (roughly 1/4 inch to 4 inch), in random 2–4 m lengths or cut to your exact blank length. Finishes include hot finished and black, cold drawn, peeled, centreless ground and polished, with across-flats tolerances to h9, h10 or h11 depending on the downstream process. Chamfered or sawn ends, bar-end marking and individual heat-number tagging are standard so that traceability survives into your machining shop.
Stock is carried in the high-volume grades and we also run mill quantities to order for project work. Because hexagon stock is usually consumed on multi-spindle automatics or CNC lathes, we pay particular attention to straightness, decarburisation and surface integrity, all three of which directly influence tool life and scrap rate in fastener production.
Cold drawn hex bar. Produced by drawing hot rolled feedstock through hexagonal dies, giving tight across-flats tolerance, clean sharp corners, good surface finish and a light cold-worked skin that improves machinability in the solid-solution alloys.
Hot finished hex bar. Rolled or forged to size and supplied descaled. Preferred for the larger across-flats sizes and for heavily alloyed grades that work-harden quickly.
Peeled, ground and polished hex. For valve stems, pump shafts and sealing surfaces where a bar must run through a packing or a bearing. Centreless grinding achieves h8/h9 tolerance and Ra 0.4–0.8 µm.
Governing specifications. ASTM B166 covers nickel-chromium-iron alloy rod and bar (Inconel 600, 601, 625 and related grades); ASTM B160 covers wrought nickel (Nickel 200 and 201); ASTM B446 covers Ni-Cr-Mo-Nb alloy rod and bar (Inconel 625); ASTM B164 covers Monel 400 and R-405; ASTM B574 covers the low-carbon Ni-Cr-Mo family (C-276, C-22); ASTM B425 covers Incoloy 825 and ASTM B473 covers Alloy 20. The corresponding ASME SB- specifications are applied for pressure-retaining parts, and AMS 5666 is available for Inconel 718 bar destined for aerospace fasteners.
Condition. Hot worked, hot worked and annealed, cold worked, solution annealed, or solution treated and aged for the precipitation-hardening grades. Straightness is typically held to 1 mm per metre for drawn bar, with tighter limits by agreement.
We produce and stock hexagon bar across the full nickel alloy family:
Manufacturing route. Melting is by vacuum induction melting followed by electroslag remelting or vacuum arc remelting for the grades where cleanliness and fatigue performance matter, then hot forging or rolling to feedstock size, cold drawing to finished hexagon, and final heat treatment. The precipitation-hardening grades are solution treated and aged under recorded furnace conditions; if you want the metallurgical background on why the ageing cycle controls fastener strength, our article on precipitation strengthening in nickel superalloys explains the mechanism. Round stock in the same grades and heats is available from our nickel alloy round bar programme, and finished hardware from our nickel alloy fasteners range.
Every bar is identified to its melt and heat lot. Hangbo Alloy Group holds ISO 9001:2015, GJB 9001C and GOST R certification, and shipments are released with EN 10204 3.1 certificates covering chemical analysis, tensile properties, hardness, grain size and heat treatment condition. EN 10204 3.2 certification and witness inspection are arranged through BV, SGS, TUV, DNV or Lloyd's Register when the end user requires independent verification.
Supplementary testing routinely performed on hexagon bar includes ultrasonic examination to ASTM A388, penetrant testing of bar ends, intergranular corrosion testing where the specification calls for it, and full dimensional reporting of across-flats, across-corners and straightness. For fastener manufacturers we can supply sample lengths from the same heat for tool trials before the production quantity is released.
Hexagon bar is supplied from 6 mm to 100 mm across flats in both metric and inch sizes, in random 2–4 m lengths or cut to an exact blank length. Peeled and centreless ground bar is available across most of that range for shaft and stem applications.
Cold drawn bar to h9 across flats is the usual choice for multi-spindle automatic work because it feeds reliably through collets and hexagonal bushings. Hot finished bar to h11 is adequate where the component is turned or milled from a blank rather than fed continuously.
Yes. We supply Inconel 718 hex in the solution treated condition so you can machine and then age in-house, or fully solution treated and aged to the strength level your specification requires. AMS 5666 and NACE MR0175 compliant material is available for aerospace and sour-service work.
