Nickel 205 — UNS N02205 (Commercially Pure Nickel (High-Temperature))

N02205 technical guide: nominal chemical composition, mechanical and physical properties, corrosion resistance, welding, product forms and ASTM standards...

Nickel 205 (UNS N02205) is a commercially pure nickel (high-temperature). Titanium-added pure nickel for high temp. Pure-nickel caustic/salt corrosion resistance. This guide covers its nominal chemical composition, typical mechanical and physical properties, corrosion behaviour, welding, common applications, available product forms and the ASTM standards that apply — everything a specifier needs to evaluate Nickel 205 for a project.

Overview

Nickel 205 belongs to the commercially pure nickel (high-temperature) class of materials. It is titanium-added pure nickel for high temp. It is pure-nickel caustic/salt corrosion resistance. It is good grain stability when hot.

Corrosion Resistance

205 is a titanium-bearing pure nickel that gains strength and grain stability at elevated temperature while keeping pure-nickel corrosion resistance to caustic alkalis, salts and many organic media. The titanium controls grain growth during high-temperature exposure.

Welding and Fabrication

Welded with ERNi-1 filler by GTAW/GMAW; titanium helps the HAZ resist grain coarsening. Annealing after welding restores softness and ductility.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Nickel 205?

205 is a titanium-bearing commercially pure nickel. The titanium (0.02–0.60 %) improves strength and grain stability at high temperature while preserving pure-nickel corrosion resistance to caustic alkalis, salts and many organic media.

What are Nickel 205 mechanical properties?

Annealed: ≈ 450 MPa tensile, ≈ 150 MPa yield, 40 % elongation, 60–75 HRB, serviceable to about 600 °C.

Nickel 205 vs Nickel 200 – what differs?

205 adds titanium for grain stability and strength at temperature; 200 is the baseline pure-nickel grade. Both share the same caustic/corrosion profile.

Is Nickel 205 weldable?

Yes, with ERNi-1 filler by GTAW/GMAW; titanium limits HAZ grain growth, and post-weld annealing restores ductility.

Where is Nickel 205 used?

High-temperature pure-nickel hardware, caustic/salt equipment, furnace components and thermal-management/electronic parts.

Which standards cover Nickel 205?

Bar/rod ASTM B160, plate/sheet/strip ASTM B162, seamless pipe/tube ASTM B161.
