Corrosion Resistance

Good resistance to atmospheric corrosion and mild chemical environments. The chromium and molybdenum content provides moderate resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion. Suitable for applications in marine and industrial atmospheres.

Applications

The unique combination of properties makes Springex 300 suitable for a wide range of demanding applications:

  • Spring Manufacturing: High-performance springs for aerospace and industrial applications.
  • Electronics: Battery contacts, switch components, and connectors.
  • Automotive: Valve springs, clutch springs, and safety belt retractors.
  • Medical: Surgical instrument springs and orthodontic components.
  • Industrial: Valve plates, diaphragms, and pressure-sensing elements.

Available Product Forms

Hangbo Alloy Group manufactures and supplies Springex 300 in the following product forms, conforming to ASTM, AMS, and ASME specifications:

  • Round Bars: Diameters from 6 mm to 300 mm, hot-finished or cold-drawn, solution annealed.
  • Seamless Tubes & Pipes: Sizes from 6 mm OD to 219 mm OD, various wall thicknesses.
  • Plates & Sheets: Thicknesses from 0.5 mm to 50 mm, hot-rolled or cold-rolled.
  • Forgings: Custom flanges, rings, discs, and complex shapes per customer drawing.
  • Welding Wire: Diameters 0.8 mm to 5.0 mm, precision-wound coils and spools.

Spring Temper, Forming and Stress Relieving

Springex 300 reaches its 1400 MPa tensile / 1100 MPa yield figure in the cold-worked plus aged condition. Selecting the right temper and stress-relief cycle is what separates a spring that holds its load from one that relaxes in service.

ConditionTensile (MPa)Typical use
Solution annealed≈ 850Forming, deep drawing
Cold worked (spring temper)1200–1400Flat springs, clips, diaphragms
Cold worked + aged 480 °C1350–1450High-load springs to 400 °C

After severe forming, stress-relieve at 450–500 °C for 1–2 hours. This restores elasticity without over-ageing. Full ageing at higher temperature raises strength but reduces fatigue life, so match the cycle to whether load retention or cycle count matters more.

Fatigue, Relaxation and Corrosion Performance

  • Fatigue: the 35 Ni / 16 Cr / 7 Mo chemistry gives high-cycle fatigue strength well above 300-series stainless at equal hardness.
  • Relaxation: load loss stays under roughly 5 % over 1000 h at 300 °C — the alloy is rated for continuous service to 400 °C.
  • Corrosion: the molybdenum content puts pitting resistance clearly ahead of 316L and equivalent to 6Mo grades in chloride-bearing atmospheres.
  • Environment: suitable for mildly sour service; for high-H₂S duty check against NACE MR0175 requirements before specifying.
  • Surface: a bright, oxide-free finish measurably improves fatigue life — specify pickled or bright-annealed strip for dynamic parts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Springex 300 compare with 17-7 PH or Inconel X-750 springs?

Springex 300 sits between them: better corrosion resistance and relaxation behaviour than 17-7 PH, at a lower material cost than Inconel X-750, with a practical service ceiling around 400 °C.

Can it be welded?

Welding is possible with matching filler but the heat-affected zone loses the cold-worked temper. For critical springs, form and heat-treat the finished part instead of welding assemblies.

What thicknesses are available?

Precision strip from 0.05 mm upward, plus wire and bar. Tight thickness tolerance and controlled camber are available for diaphragm and bellows work.

What is the chemical composition of Springex 300?

UNS N30000: 35-38% nickel, 15-17% chromium, 6-8% molybdenum, up to 2% cobalt, iron balance and 0.06% max carbon.

What are its mechanical properties?

Tensile about 1400 MPa, yield about 1100 MPa and 12% elongation in the cold-worked/aged spring condition.

Why is it used for springs?

It combines high strength with corrosion resistance and retains spring properties to about 400 °C, resisting relaxation in service.

What applications suit Springex 300?

Corrosion-resistant springs, washers, seals and fasteners in marine and industrial atmospheres.

What product forms are supplied?

Strip and foil primarily, with bar and wire available in the temper required for spring fabrication.

How does it compare to stainless spring steel?

Its higher nickel and molybdenum give better corrosion and fatigue resistance than conventional 300-series spring steel.
